AquaStyle 380 aquarium - filter maintenance
Thanks to the excellent built in trickle filtration system, the AquaStyle 380 aquarium isn't difficult to maintain. As ever, we recommend servicing your Aqua One aquarium in line with the manufacturers instructions, available here, but we've set out a quick guide below which you may find useful.
Without doubt, the (1c) Carbon and Wool Cartridge is one of the most important components in the AquaStyle 380 trickle filtration system. It contains activated carbon and is designed to remove tanin and other impurities and discolourants from aquairum water. The polymer wool surface layer bonds tiny particles of aquarium debris to give aquarium water that "polished" look. Replace every 4 to 6 weeks.
The Black Sponge Pad (1s) provides physical filtration within the filter by trapping and removing larger particles of aquarium waste. It's usually best placed above the 1c Cartridge to help extend it's working life. Black Sponge Pads may be rinsed in a little aquarium water and replaced. Change every 12 months or when the cell structure begins to deteriorate.
Although the (1w) Polymer Wool Pad is an optional addition to the AquaStyle 380 filtration system, it does serve a very important purpose. The Wool Pad can be squeezed in above the 1c Carbon and Wool Cartridge to provide an additional layer of physical filtration, bonding fine particles of aquarium debris to it's fibres.
